Can your PC run Windows 7? Check the Upgrade Advisor

windows7_logoIf you are planning on upgrading your Vista install to Windows 7 then before purchasing you would be wise to check the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. The initial install is just 6.3MB in size and takes less than a minute to download on an average DSL connection. Lets take a look at what it does.

When first running, the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will check for any updates to make sure you are running the latest version of the upgrade advisor. If you have only just installed the advisor then it should skip past this step with in about 30 seconds or so.

Once you are past this box a screen will pop up with a button towards the bottom left saying Start Check. Click on this.

When you click the Start Check button the scan of your system will start. This process took around 5 – 10 minutes on my fairly old laptop. Just leave it doing what it does and it will let you know when it has finished.

Once complete a report will be loaded up letting you know what needs fixing on your PC before you upgrade. It is important to pay attention to this part as some of the driver upgrades will be difficult to make if you cannot get on the web for some reason. Save the report and action each point and then do a rescan. Once you are happy all is in order you will be ready to upgrade.
