Often when your computers hard drive starts to fill up it can be a lengthy task working out exactly what is using up all the space. A common way is to search through various folders looking for old images, old movies and various other files that take up large amounts of space. OverDisk is a piece of software that I came across today over on GHacks, that allows you to visually analyse your disk usage and easily monitor what’s happening and where the space is being taken.
The software is only an alpha version at the moment, but it’s good to install on Windows and is a great tool to let you know where the busiest and fullest folders are on your PC.
OverDisk Features
* Resizable statistics dialog; removed expand-on-demand.
* Full-row select for various lists (statistics & sys drive dlg…).
* Persistent size/pos of resizable dlgs: stats, histogram, sys drives.
* Scanning dlg: reduce update freq (from 0.1 to 1sec) & removed potential small delay on close.
* Better folder browser for “Any Folder” (where supported).
* The System Drives Info dialog now reads information asynchronously. Also the order that the drives are examined is based on their type to avoid waiting for slow drive types. The order is: ram-disks, fixed drives, optical, removable, network.
* Extended option “Auto scan drive on startup” to accept a directory instead.
* Doesn’t autoscan the first hard drive by default on the first run.
* XP theme compatibility.
The software is free to download and could come seriously handy for those needing to monitor their hard drive space.
