If you are running either the latest version of the Chrome browser or the latest version of Firefox (version 3.5) then you will notice when you load up google maps that there is a small button just below the compass. When you click on this it takes you to your current location based on your ISP.
For those using maps on a mobile phone, you have already had this functionality built in for a year or so now. That system uses your phone to triangulate your rough location with in about 1KM depending on the location and type of mobile towers.
To get it working simple download the latest browsers mentioned above, navigate to Google Maps and then hit the small button. The down side of this though is that it doesn’t work that often. Out of 10 attempts I only managed to locate my self a couple of times and although it got me with in the same town, it was still 3 or so miles out. It’s acceptable but not as good as the mobile versions and nowhere near as good as GPS.
