How to Download Gmail to Outlook

If you are an Outlook user and also have a Gmail address, it is possible to download emails right to your Outlook preventing the need to log on to the Gmail website. This simple tutorial will take you through the steps of how to download Gmail to Outlook.
Go to the Control Panel and load up Mail
Click Email Accounts – Enter your Outlook or Exchange password if required
Select the Email Tab and Click New and then Next
Click on the Manual Settings check box and then click Next
Select Internet Email (default setting) and click Next
Fill in the form with your name and Gmail address
Account type is POP3
Incoming Mail Server should be set to: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing Mail Server should be set to: smtp.gmail.com
Fill in the username and password (your Gmail address and password)
Click on More Settings
Click on Outgoing Server and then My Outgoing Server requires authentication
Click Advanced and select this server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
Change the SMTP (outgoing server) to port 435
Click Leave a copy of messages on the server (if you want to keep them on the web based interface also
Click OK and then Test Account Settings
Click OK and Finish
Once this step is complete you need to configure Gmail to allow external connections to your mailbox. This is done by following the steps below…
Log in to Gmail
Click Settings
Clock Forwarding and POP
Go to the POP Download section and click on Enable POP or something similar
Save the settings
Note that there are some older users that do not have this functionality just yet. However, Google are working in phases at getting more Gmail accounts to allow POP3 access.
After completing the above steps you should now be able to download your Gmail in to your Outlook software and also send emails from Outlook.
