How to Speed up your Slow Running Computer

by Matthew on July 8, 2009

computer_running_slowPeople often ask how they can speed up their slow running computer. With most computers having access to the internet and people downloading many programs, being infected with spyware and occasionally getting a virus I can see why this question is on a lot of people’s minds.

Luckily in most cases it is a relatively simple process to speed up your computer back to normal levels. If you are starting to get frustrated with the lack of performance your computer seems to have and want to speed up your computer then continue reading below.

Your computer runs slow for a number of reasons. Usually the reasons fall in to one of the following categories…

1.)Not enough RAM or a slow CPU (But if it was fast at one time and you haven’t upgraded Windows then move to the next step).
2.)Too many programs running in memory on startup. Check this tutorial for tips on how to fix that.
3.)Spyware or a Virus has infected your computer. Read this Virus removal guide for details how to speed things up and if you run in to problems and cannot remove the virus, check details here on how to remove a virus in safe mode.

If you have upgraded to a new operating system then the answer could be that you just need more RAM. However, performing steps 2 and 3 above will also help speed things up a little and you might just find that you have enough power to run what you need.
