YouTube HD now Allows 2GB Uploads

by Matthew on June 29, 2009

youtube-hdYouTube recently made a change to the size of video that can be uploaded to it’s service. Previously the limit was 1GB and this has now been doubled to 2GB. The change is to take in to consideration the amount of users now uploading HD content to the YouTube service.

It’s an interesting move as recently (September 2008) the upload limit was restricted at just 100MB and then bumped up to 1GB and now even more.

There are limits on the length of video being uploaded though which is restricted to the usual 10 minutes. This gives you 2 options. First is to split your videos in to parts or the second is to become a partner which removes the 10 minute cap.

Some other news for those who embed YouTube videos on to their websites… they can now specify with a simple parameter on the end of a URL (&hd=1) and the embedded video will automatically be started in HD mode rather then users having to click the HD button.

It’s a step in the right direction for YouTube and very much needed for those who upload in HD quality.
